Greater Sudbury (Lively), Ontario

Don is an award-winning landscape and wildlife photographer based in Lively, Ontario. Now retired from teaching he has photographed the animals, flowers, landscapes of Northern Ontario, Canada, North America and in countries on other continents.

Don’s photography has been published in advertisements, magazines, books, calendars and other media including Audubon, Sierra, Canadian Geographic, National Geographic, National Wildlife and Ontario Nature. In 2017 his grizzly bear photo graced the cover of Canadian Geographic. He supplied photos for the Sudbury VETAC book Healing the Landscape as well as self-publishing his own coffee-table book Close to Home.

Artist's Vision

I try to reveal the sometimes hidden beauty and complexity in natural things. I am a generalist photographer without a specialty. I am comfortable photographing all types of subject matter, concentrating on the natural shapes, lines, textures, perspectives and colours, trying not to impose myself on the subject. I enjoy using the camera to go beyond the straight documentary, venturing into the interpretive aspect of photography.
